So, lots of talk about low calories here and this is the scoop: My boyfriend was on the HCG protocol diet, complete with the homeopathically prepared drops that he swears by to control his appetite (which doesn't stop him from complaining about being hungry so I don't know what he thinks appetite means). Anyway, he's drastically compliant so was eating 500 calories a day for many weeks, maybe 5 or 6. I think the protocol is either 20 days or 40 days, whatever you choose. It's a diet developed in the 1950's in England, so the food is severely limited in the 500 calories. He, at 6 feet tall, lost 18 pounds in 6 weeks. He did go off the diet for my birthday weekend when he took me to Maine.
So, in sympathy, I said I would try the HCG diet, definitely without the drops. I know he lost weight because he starved himself for 6 weeks. Me, I am only 5 foot 3 inches tall, my Base Metabolic rate, calculated many times, is 1250 calories a day. For me, 500 calories is maybe half of what I would eat if I am successfully dieting to lose weight (see my journal July to November 2016 when I lost 26 pounds in 4 months with an average of 1100 calories a day). Having decided to eat only twice a day per the protocol, and hit 50 grams of protein per day just to keep on a steady amount. So far, if you look at my calendar for November, I have not hit as low as 500 on any day and went far over on many days. Average for the month is about 750 a day. In 4 weeks I have lost 8 pounds which is actually not outrageous for my height and medium-built frame. I certainly have not felt deprived, since I have added what I wanted probably every day. Also kept having almond milk in coffee because I can't drink black coffee and have to have coffee.
I might try to get 500 average this week to see what would happen.
Anyway, hope this wasn't too long or boring, but that is what I am doing. I haven't been below 150 since I started FS and that is the current goal that I am going for. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for the explanation but I don't think anyone really has to justify themselves here for what they do. Sometimes if someone asks, my only suggestion is to check with their doctor about what they are doing.

Good luck on your goal! Can I ask how you calculated out your base metabolic rate? Never had a good grasp on that for myself.

Good job - when I follow OMAD I am usually pretty low calorie and it works.

If it works and you don't feel hungry and it's nutritious, I don't see what the fuss would be. The only thing that I would recommend is taking a multivitamin because it's really difficult to get enough on just 500 calories. I am adamantly anti-supplement, but that's when someone has at least 1,000 kcals to work with.

@Fritzy 22 I don't mean to justify, just explain the methodology that seems to be helping me get to goal.

You're a very supportive gf! Good luck, and maybe your best should lay off the drops, lol.
