Hi! Post menopausal stuff ahead (warning!)
Does anyone here use prescription estrogen treatments? I have been for a few months, and I swear I am having PMS symptoms during this time - you know, crazy thoughts I can't control and depression. Also experiencing hot flashes which I did not have before the treatment. Do you think the treatment helps or hurts weight loss?
Hope you are having a great day!

Be careful. Breast Cancer loves estrogen.

It might be worth talking to your doc about adjusting the dose!

It sounds to me like the cure is worse than the disease. I just went through menopause naturally. I really had no NORMAL symptoms. I had severe panic attacks, which I didn’t know were being caused by peri-menopause until after I hit menopause and they stopped, a year later. Anyway, unless you’re having menopause symptoms worse than the estrogen related symptoms you’re having, I would consider going estrogen free. Definitely talk to your doctor. It sounds miserable. I hope you figure it out.

I have an estrogen patch as I had a tital hysterectomy many years ago. My Dr is aware of risks if breast cancer so I'm on low dose but without it I'm a total bitch! I still have morning hot flashes but not to bad.

Went thru a catastrophic back injury in my 40’s that I am still dealing with and my body just stopped having monthly’s. 6 months later had a 2 day then never again, no hot flashes , nothing. Just one day bloating, pms, the whole deal, the next day zip, nada, over. My big sis went thru the whole hot flashes deal. Her gyno said deal with it. Some guys need a smack. She really suffered. Like sticking her head in the freezer suffering and it didn’t help. And your doc says deal with it. I’d like to see what he’d say after one day of hot flashes! As to your question... heck yeah hormones mess with weight big time!!

Are they balancing it with progesterone? Some gals don't like the generic Progestin. I will be 80 this year and still have hot flashes. I read 15% never get them, 15% have them the rest of their lives. Obviously I am in the later group. Don't some gals take plant based hormones? All I know about weight is that the older I got the harder it is to lose!

I’m sure anyone going through menopause will have different results . I would think it depends on health circumstances., natural vs surgical menopause etc. unfortunately for me Cervical/ ovarian Cancer threw me into early menopause. The symptoms were awe filled hot flashes, can’t sleep etc. I was on hormone therapy ( testosterone & estrogen pellets) and progesterone pill- after 4 years of being on it. I just recently stopped it all. It did help with the hot flashes, moods/emotions. Insurance didn’t cover pellets 300 bucks is steep to still not feel like your old self 😊 That’s why I stopped. But it did help with the sleeping & hot flashes and emotions. I feel I’m through the hardest part. The hot flashes are doable now it’s the insomnia that’s the issue now. I was still able to loose eight with or with out any hormone therapy/meds. It’s still too soon for me to tell I just stopped the end of February. Good luck with whatever you decide fir yourself. Good luck on your healthy lifestyle journey. 👍🍀🌈😊

I've been on HRT since my full hysterectomy back in 2007. I use a patch, which seems to work better than any pills. Not too much in the way of hot flashes or night sweats, but I still get a little. I'm mostly using HRT to save my marriage, LOL! Kind of a shrieking harpie without it. Look into Vivelle dot-patch if you're not using that.

I do vaginal HRT because of a history of breast cancer in my immediate family. Talked with my oncologist and that is what she recommended. Only use 3x’s a week it’s a small tablet like a birth control pill not messy! 😁

I had a complete hysterectomy when I was 35 and never used hormones. I used soy and flax seed for the hot flashes and moodiness. After about 18 months it leveled out. Sometimes I will get a hot flash when I’m going to sleep and I’ll put some peppermint oil on my feet. I’m 56 now.

I absolutely must have replacement. But I hope you have the counter part progesterone too to protect the uterus. If I have hot flashes I need more. I know when Ive had too much because my breast start hurting and I tend to let a bi$ch jump out of my mouth. With that said yes you can get pms type symptoms.

I took estrogen for 10 years after a complete hysterectomy at age 50. I kept my job and my marriage intact. But I never felt good about taking it. I’m high strung and have a very bad temper, so I was fearful of menopause. I made the decision to listen to my doctor but weaned myself off after 10 years. Not much help I’m afraid. Just know you have lots of support and encouragement here. I also have clinical depression that I had to weigh into the equation. Wish I had a magic 🪄 wand.

I had my total hysterectomy at 29–ovaries and all. I’m 45 now. I highly recommend bio identical hormones, which you’ll need a compounding pharmacy for. You can see if your town/city has one with a quick google search. If your doctor doesn’t work with bio identical, i would absolutely find one that does. It’s all natural and plant based and removes a ton of the risk with estrogen etc. Making sure you have a progesterone replacement as well is a must. Estrogen dominance in the body causes weight gain and also interrupts sleep and many other things! Far too many doctors only prescribe estrogen and that is not enough. I hope this helps!!
