Okay, it's confession time. On August 26 I had a vertical sleeve gastronomy. I had mentioned some time ago that I was considering it and got very little positive feedback. So I hope you all don't think I am cheating or taking the easy way out. I have been losing very well prior to surgery, but I have done this before. I've lost 90 lbs a couple of times before and can only keep it off for a couple of years and back it comes and I seem helpless to prevent it. I know WLS is only a tool, I will still need to live a low carb lifestyle, but this will help me with my portion control issues. Hope my buddies aren't too disappointed in me.

I think that you need to do what works for you. We all do. If that is what works, then do it. I'm happy for you that you continue to lose!

I am not one of your named buddies but certainly would never judge you for doing what you feel is necessary. Yes, you have been making commendable progress so I don't think you are taking the easy way out. I am sure a gastric sleeve isn't easy. God bless and may you receive the help you so long for.

Anyone who is disappointed in you for taking charge of your own health is not a friend. Congratulations on choosing not to repeat the same pattern! How are you feeling?

You're not here on Earth to live up to anyone's expectations, except your own. We each find a way to live the best life we can, even if it's not the life we dreamed of. You did what you think will work for you, and I'm proud of you for having the courage to go forward with it! How are you feeling and adjusting?

I just signed up. I have been doing a very low carb/sugar diet for the past 4 months. Also, walking almost every day. I signed up to this site to help me figure out my portions and protein, fat, and carb amounts. I tend to not eat enough. I am one of the woman who hardly eats anything during the day but dinner which tends to be late. If anything I don't ever eat enough. I hardly ever eat any sugar and carbs. However, I am sure learning of the amounts I ate in carbs that are hiding even in vegetables. Best of Luck with you sleeve Rhontique. I have know people who have it and done well.

We each have to decide what will help us get healthy. What is right for one is not necessarily right for another. I Wish you luck and fast loss.

Everyone has to do what they think is best. You are in charge of your health plan so no reason not to be supportive! Best Wishes to you.

Keep us posted on how your doing regardless of whether some express disappointment. There is so much more to living a healthy life than food/eating and it sure looks like your being supported here (FS) on so many levels :) Blessings!

As it has been said "everyone" has to do what is best for them, if someone isn't supportive of that then they weren't buddies.

Interesting, that we watch Rev. Al Sharpton a lot. We always remembered him as a pretty large, fat man. Since his sleeve surgery, we kind of laugh a bit, as to what happened to Al. He is now so small, and thin. I bet he would tell you, that it has changed his life. We really like "little Al"!

I don't consider WLS to be the easier way. I wish you well and look forward to watching your continued progress ☺

Rhontique, I think maybe when people don't come out positively in support of WLS that it might just be a healthy dose of caution. Surgery is such a serious undertaking that if we're not surgeons, we really should hold back on encouraging it. I imagine bariatric surgeons themselves get frustrated with the people who come to them looking for a surgical fix but not willing to make the life changes to go along with the medical risks. You're their dream patient! You have tried other options, you have proven your willingness to make healthy changes, and you have carefully made your own informed decision. It sounds to me like you're the exact type of person this surgery was designed for. I wish you a swift recovery and a long, happy, healthy life!

Modern medicine is one of many tools that we can opt to access. I'm glad you are finding the support you need to be healthy. I qualified for bariatric surgery a couple of years ago, went to many appointments, but when the time came, I couldn't do it. Since then I've lost 70 lbs. but it's been a lot of work! And like you, I'm hoping I can keep it up and keep it off. Best of success to you, buddy!

Thanks everyone! I am surprised at how little pain I've had. My recovery is going faster than I expected. Get my staples out tomorrow. I'm having the most trouble educating myself on how much I can eat and how fast. Drank my protein drink to fast this evening and spent the next 20 minutes slowly spitting it back up. Reminded me of a baby that needed burped!

No apologies necessary on any level. You are doing what is right for you and if it helps you get to where you need to go (and stay there!) more power to it and to you!

Rhontique, congrats on the sleeve, I had that done on 4/21/2016 and lost 83 lbs. so far. Be careful not to overeat otherwise you're going to have issues. I want to lose 43 more Lbs. and maintain the rest of my life. I love Greek yogurt and low fat cottage cheese which is loaded with protein which i need at least 80 to 100 grams a day. Good luck to both of us!!!
