A couple days late, but got my thoughts together. 18 total swims in July. Worked out every day, including twice a lot of weekend days. Swims would have been higher except for the boat fire which pretty much kept everyone indoors for a couple of days. Shooting for 20 in August. Got these new paddles last night. They're smaller than my Speedos, but they are reversible and are supposed to let you isolate different muscle groups by doing so. I think I do the same thing when I do long pulls vs. short, etc., but we'll see. Will be interesting. Also including a pic of the Batman hands because what's more interesting than two pictures of swim paddles on a Monday morning? For anyone wondering, the point is to increase resistance in both cases. Still waiting on the snorkel device, delayed until tomorrow. BF suggested I stuff a paper towel in there in the meantime. So helpful! Think I'll wait.

5 miles walking last night, weather was perfect. Didn't swim, had even gotten into my suit but wasn't feeling it because it was cold and overcast. Yesterday was a little weird, my mood matched the weather. Stuff going on in background, will get through it, but sometimes you just gotta suck it up and push forward no matter how you feel about life. We didn't get to go to the mountains and I didn't go by myself either. Life goes on.

Notice how the weight stayed the same but the numbers fluctuate? Irritating if I only focus on the scale, but I did bands again as well. Thank goodness for my milestone pants so I don't lose my mind on the scale. Hung completely upside down by my ankles on the inversion table for three minutes again yesterday. Did some movements that way just in case I am ever hanging by my ankles in a moving train over a bridge and need to curl myself up just because. I really like this contraption, hoping I can do it for the rest of my life. It's invigorating for me. I know not everyone has the same experience, but I'm enjoying it for now. I'm getting good at controlling it by shifting my body weight vs. using the handles. Hard to explain, but it's a good thing.

So there you go for now. Wear your masks. Please.

Paddles in general increase the volume of water you have to "pull" through the water and make you work harder. That's why I was just going to get bigger ones than I currently have to up the work I'm doing. These, according to the literature, force your hands into positions that isolate different muscle groups so I can focus better on different groups. See the descriptions below. I'm also going to try my hands at butterfly again because I'm stupid stubborn. I will never be great at it because of my body type, but I can be better than I am today and I've done it before, so there's really no good reason why I can't do it now. Using the edge on the outside (grey on left, yellow on right) allows swimmers to isolate and engage the triceps and trapezius muscles. Recommended for backstroke and freestyle Using the edge on the inside (yellow on left, grey on right) allows swimmers to isolate and engage the pectoral, bicep and deltoid muscles. Recommended for butterfly and breaststroke The Batman hands can also be used different ways, even swimming with them (hard!), but I mostly use them to create resistance working my upper back against the current and another exercise to focus on triceps. Resistance is in pushing and pulling the water.

I was curious and looked at a 30 second video. Interesting and good for you if it does work.

Thanks Kat! I love the breast stroke above and under. I might have to get some friend 🤗💜💚

jc, use those bands of yours in the water, increases resistance and your core has to try and stabilize differently than it does on land.

Thank you Kat! Where should I place them though if I’m swimming lapse? Should I just use them when I’m doing my exercises in the pool?

Haha to hanging by your ankles... you never know. :)

Use the bands while standing unless you're far more talented than I am at holding your breath. Crab walk, knee raises, chest pulls, anything except donkey kick or clamshell - because breathing is fun. and from all the way back when I was in high school, 1 gallon plastic jugs filled with water make great pool weights. I always liked the orange juice ones, but my mom made us get the frozen OJ so I had to use boring milk jugs. I can't even imagine drinking a gallon of OJ these days, much less two. crazy stuff!
