I swam today. One thing about exercising… you learn to cherish your body again. My swimming form was still intact, and I was filled with childlike delight as my limbs powerfully propelled me through water. It was rather miraculous considering the extent of neglect my body was put through for years. How forgiving.

Apropos I have never seen a happy lifeguard in my entire life, and the one we had today was exceptionally despondent. Poor fellow. I forgot about my leg scars and other misfortunes for a moment and reflected on the anguish that plagues him. Henry Miller once said, “Develop an interest in life as you see it; the people, things, literature, music – the world is so rich, simply throbbing with rich treasures, beautiful souls and interesting people. Forget yourself.” I like this quote because of the word “throbbing.”
I didn’t stay for the aquatic class so I didn’t get to meet Melvin.

The gym instructor kid is serious and he even phoned me to remind me of our appointment. It’s nice to be on the receiving end of caring once in a while. I tell myself to be even kinder to my patients, and decided to call one of my long-term patients who is on milrinone drip for palliation. He was so happy to hear from me that his voice started quivering. This precious man was given 6 months to live more than 2 years ago but we laughed about it and we continue to kick ass today.

Perhaps it is not at all necessary to dwell on my measurements. I am glad the instructor kid was stern about them and told me that I’ve got tons of work to do. I asked him quite nicely not to discuss nutrition, but he wouldn’t hear of it. Protein 109g a day, he wrote in my notebook. I can tell his mother is a tough woman.

Yes I am being wordy. Writing helps. I didn’t cry today.

I am an RN Mrs Wifey. Do you dive? I’m very interested but fitness is getting rather expensive! 🤣🤣🤣

Ooh marpingo I didn’t see you! Nope I haven’t turned the page yet. I am a bit of a drama queen and I do not shy away from prolonged self pity 🤣🤣 hopefully the next chapter brings me a little happiness. Thank you for stopping by.

No I don’t dive but I would love to. But I am a good swimmer. I love swimming and I do not do it enough so you’ve inspired me to try adding it into my routine.

Mrs Wifey, I stayed away from pool for many years. Reading the journal of Katsolo and Jollyfox reminded me how much I missed swimming. I initially used this app only to keep a weight log. I never thought interacting with its people would result in my wanting to go to a gym! Everyday I find something positive in their journal, yours included, and I thank you.

Andrew my next goal is to understand what these numbers actually mean when you post your workout routines. It was Greek to me, I was just pretending to know what you or Jimmiepop or Diablo were talking about. This is getting interesting and I started feeling a little more alive, so thank you for being who you are!

Very uplifting post YF. Great job of making a plan to get physically active and following through. Your description of propelling yourself through the water was especially heart warming. In my mind's eye I was able to see you churning through the water and sending off a wake. Any day we don't have to cry is a good day.

I am glad you enjoyed your swim.🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️ I was so hoping you would. I started my career in the fitness industry as a lifeguard back in 1986 and I was a happy lifeguard!

I don’t get interested in many long journal posts but I am always fascinated when I read yours. I could spend all day reading it , if it was long enough. So much honesty and openness.. I love it!! (always my 6am reading) P.s numbers , Numbers, Numbers, Numbers.. however, 109g of protein is easy to consume! 🙄

I LOVE how you write and express yourself and to glimpse the world through your eyes! It makes me feel good to know you didn't cry today, and that your patient has pushed on and squeezed more out of life than expected!!!! I love that you could call up those feelings of enjoying life as a child!!! I hope you have a happy Friday Yfritz!!! 😊
