Broiled salmon and my first attempt at pumpkin fries from scratch. I did not peel the fries based on the recipe I used as reference - that was a mistake. I did go back and skin the second half of the pumpkin and will try a different technique tomorrow. These were good, but the few where I removed all the peel tasted much better. They do not taste like French fries, not like sweet potato fries either, something in between. These were savory with garlic, chili flakes, cumin and paprika. Would never try to make these night of to serve to company. Too labor intensive and a lot of knife work. They were yummy with mozzarella melted on top, but what isn't?

Sometimes cooking is a learning experience, isn't it? At least, I learn something every time. Looks yummy!

It is always a learning experience. With the exception of baking (most of the time), I tend to look at recipes as general guidance and often do my own thing. Sometimes, it works, sometimes it doesn't. I'd give these a 6.5 out of 10 with definite room for improvement on technique. The potential is there, but not the way I did it. I'm also going to try soaking this second batch in cold water first similar to French fries to see if that does anything. Also going to do cinnamon and cardamom instead of full savory. No sugar, but I want that pumpkin pie feeling. Probably break out nutmeg and allspice, too. I have a whole second pumpkin, too, but I think I'll just bake that one when the feeling hits.

Pumpkin fries just suck. Final answer. Second batch was not up to par either. I will make the other pumpkin into pumpkin butter or something else.
